ARTIST PROFILE

Malcolm Taylor

Malcolm Taylor - Artist

Malcolm started work as an apprenticed lithographic artist in Birmingham in 1965 and has continued to work in print graphic reproduction since then.

Although he has always painted occasionally in his spare time, he began painting more seriously after moving to Baildon, near Shipley in West Yorkshire, where he was inspired to capture in watercolours the moors and woodlands around his home.

Largely self-taught, Malcolm’s originals and prints of countryside and local landmarks are very popular in the area where he lives, where his work is shown at local galleries and gift shops. He has exhibited at the Saltaire Festivals and has had a painting accepted for the ‘Bradford Open’.

Although his favourite subject is the Yorkshire countryside, he also does some commissioned work, mostly of peoples’ homes and is presently working on views of Liverpool.

‘People often don’t see the beauty of the area they live in, simply because it is local and has become commonplace. When I moved from Birmingham to this part of Yorkshire, I was delighted with what I saw. That was twenty years ago and I still feel the same way. One of the great pleasures I get from painting is getting people to look again at what is around them and see it with fresh eyes.'
