ARTIST PROFILE
Joan Webster
Joan was born in London in 1925 and grew up in Kent.
After her initial art training at Sidcup School of Art, she continued her studies through the war at Tunbridge Wells School of Art.
She entered the Royal College of Art in 1943 where she studied printed and woven textiles and bookbinding in the School of Design, gaining her diploma in 1946.
Joan taught design and craftwork at Newton Abbot School of Art and Stover School after which she moved to Leeds where she taught bookbinding at the College of Art and Kitson College.
After bringing up her family, she resumed her bookbinding teaching while undertaking commissions in bookbinding.
Joan returned eventually to painting for enjoyment and has since carried out several painting commissions.
