Deborah Lawson was born in North Yorkshire and, after travelling around, now lives in Shipley, West Yorkshire.
She had been a Social Worker all her working life but, after her second child started school, she studied Art and Design at Bradford College in 1990. She specialised in painting and textiles and gained a BA Hons.
Deborah paints a wide range of subjects including flowers, landscapes, portraits and abstracts. Some recent works have been of Ilkley Moor, the historic village of nearby Saltaire, the village of Canillas De Albaida in Southern Spain and Donegal in Ireland.
She has been commissioned by several companies connected with the construction of the Gateshead Millennium Bridge. In April 2001, her works were incorporated, in computer/video format, into an exhibition about the bridge mounted by the architects at the Science Museum in London.
Deborah has recently completed commissions from British Waterways to paint works in progress on a number of canal restoration schemes and from Gifford and Partners to paint the restored Coast Guard Station at Robin Hoods Bay. She also accepts private commissions and teaches watercolour painting part time.
Deborah has had her work exhibited in a variety of group exhibitions and, in 2002, had a picture accepted for the Bradford Open. She has held solo exhibitions locally and at The Cluny in Newcastle-upon-Tyne where she exhibited a number of her paintings of the construction of the Millennium Bridge.
